What your learner will practice
Building two-digit confidence. Second graders connect place value to addition, subtraction and familiar everyday situations. Encourage grouping into tens and ones.
With place value in Grade 2, the goal is to build understanding and to explain the method, not just get a number. Take breaks and repeat short sessions when needed.
How to solve place value problems
- 1Read the whole number from left to right.
- 2Identify the digit and its position: ones, tens, hundreds, or higher.
- 3Multiply the digit by the value of its place.
A digit and the value of that digit are not always the same.
