What your learner will practice
Multiplication and clear reasoning. Third graders begin to use multiplication, division, fractions and measurement regularly. Discuss which operation fits the question.
With division in Grade 3, the goal is to build understanding and to explain the method, not just get a number. Take breaks and repeat short sessions when needed.
How to solve division problems
- 1Find the total, the number of groups, and the missing amount.
- 2Use a related multiplication fact or draw equal groups.
- 3Multiply the quotient by the divisor to check.
Check that every group has the same amount.
