What your learner will practice
Multiplication and clear reasoning. Third graders begin to use multiplication, division, fractions and measurement regularly. Discuss which operation fits the question.
With place value in Grade 3, the goal is to build understanding and to explain the method, not just get a number. Take breaks and repeat short sessions when needed.
How to solve place value problems
- 1Read the whole number from left to right.
- 2Identify the digit and its position: ones, tens, hundreds, or higher.
- 3Multiply the digit by the value of its place.
A digit and the value of that digit are not always the same.
